This truck is removing a huge load of mahogany logs destined for the United States. The pursuit of this wood has been a significant contributor of the destruction of the Amazon Rain Forest.

The Idea for BRAZILIAN SPRINGS “MISSION” was conceived by an American living in Curitiba, Brazil. From most points in this beautiful city of 2 million, it was easy for him to see large remnants of the Atlantic Rain Forest which at one time used to cover the entire eastern seaboard of the Brazilian coast from top to bottom. In fact, the city of Curitiba was built on soil which used to encompass this forest.

During the past 500 years in Brazil, nearly 93% of the Atlantic Rain Forest was decimated by development and agricultural activities. The same thing is on track to happen in the Amazon where, over the last 50 years, 20% of that great forest has been lost. And, the speed of desecration has accelerated appreciably within these past 5 years, mostly attributable to the growth of soy bean production, illegal logging and grazing land. In a poor but very beautiful developing country like Brazil we can´t blame the average citizen for all of this as they are more concerned about daily survival. As in the early years of the United States it seems to have been and still is a few hard driving and sometimes ruthless land barons who totally disregard the law and ride roughshod over the countryside.

The magnificent topography of the Atlantic Rain Forest stands in stark contrast to the beautiful tropical beaches of Brazil.

This American felt hopeless about the situation as most of us do. What could one man do about helping to save these rain forests? Not only was he living within the shadow of the rain forest but was also daily walking around on its´ cemetery. To make matters worse, the mighty Amazon Basin to the north was continuously in the news or in discussions describing the enormous pressure of encroaching devastation and unrelenting destruction.

More than 80% of the logging in the Amazon Rain Forest is illegal.
Cattle ranching is not far behind.

He sat down and came up with a serious plan. The result of this effort was the BRAZILIAN SPRINGS “MISSION”, starting with the BRAZILIAN SPRINGS brand of bottled natural spring water. The plan was to donate money from each and every bottle sold to help to save the very forests from which it came. A few cents from each bottle would add up fast, allowing the buyer to actually do a little something each time they bought BRAZILIAN SPRINGS natural rain forest spring water.

BRAZILIAN SPRINGS brand, THE FIRST AND ONLY (TRULY) BOTTLED WATER IN THE WORLD! A WATER ON A “MISSION” and the mission has just begun.
